JERUSALEM, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) — Israeli troops shot and killed a person they suspected of trying to enter an Israeli military post in southern Syria, the Israeli military said in a statement on Monday.
The incident occurred in an area in Syrian territory that Israel calls its “security zone,” the military said, adding that no Israeli soldiers were injured.
The statement provided no details about the person’s identity or whether they were armed.
Israel sent troops into southern Syria following Bashar al-Assad’s overthrow in December 2024, occupying positions in and beyond a UN-monitored buffer zone. The United Nations has called for their withdrawal. ■
