Malaysia’s air quality remains poor as haze persists-Xinhua


KUALA LUMPUR, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) — Air quality across parts of Peninsular Malaysia deteriorated on Tuesday, with the southern state of Johor recording some of the highest readings, according to official data.

The Batu Pahat district in Johor state recorded an Air Pollutant Index (API) of 186, followed by Kluang (169), Larkin (166), Pasir Gudang (164) and Tangkak (163), according to data published by the Air Pollutant Index Management System.

In the neighboring state of Negeri Sembilan, Nilai stood at 160 and Seremban, the state capital, at 156. Other areas in the national capital Kuala Lumpur and the administrative capital Putrajaya also recorded unhealthy readings.

According to the country’s air quality rating, an API reading of zero to 50 is “good,” 51 to 100 “moderate,” 101 to 200 “unhealthy,” 201 to 300 “very unhealthy,” and 301 and above is “hazardous.” ■
