ABUJA, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) — Nine people were killed after a passenger bus and a truck collided on a busy expressway in Nigeria’s southwestern Ogun State, a road safety official said Tuesday.
In a statement, Afolabi Odunsi, spokesman for the Federal Road Safety Corps in Ogun State, said the speeding bus lost control on a slippery road and collided head-on with the truck on Monday evening.
Citing a preliminary investigation, Odunsi attributed the crash, which occurred in rainy conditions, to “overspeeding.”
Fatal road accidents are common in Nigeria and are often attributed to speeding, overloading, poor road conditions and reckless driving. ■
