Nine killed in bus-truck collision in Nigeria-Xinhua

ABUJA, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) -- Nine people were killed after a passenger bus and a truck collided on a busy expressway in Nigeria's southwestern Ogun State, a road safety official said Tuesday. In a statement, Afolabi Odunsi, spokesman for the Federal Road Safety Corps in Ogun State, said the speeding bus lost control on a slippery road and collided head-on with the truck on Monday evening. Citing a preliminary investigation, Odunsi attributed the crash, which occurred in rainy conditions, to "overspeeding." Fatal road accidents are common in Nigeria and are often attributed to speeding, overloading, poor road conditions and reckless driving. ■ Source link

6 killed in car-tanker collision in Pakistan’s Sindh-Xinhua

ISLAMABAD, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- At least six people, including women and children, were killed and two others injured when a car collided with an oil tanker in Nawabshah district of Pakistan's southern Sindh province on Monday, rescue officials said. According to Rescue 1122, the accident occurred on the National Highway when the car, reportedly traveling at high speed, lost control and crashed into the oil tanker. Rescue teams reached the site after receiving information about the accident and shifted the bodies and injured people to a nearby hospital, the statement said. Police said a case has been registered and an investigation is under way to determine the cause of the accident. ■ Source link
