ISTANBUL, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- Turkish security forces detained 4,237 people in counter-terrorism operations in Istanbul during the first nine months of 2026, up 20 percent year on year, Istanbul Governor Davut Gul said Monday. Gul made the remarks at a live-streamed press briefing on the city's law enforcement and public security data for the first nine months of the year. Of those detained in counter-terrorism operations, 826 were arrested and 639 were placed under judicial control, according to Gul. He said Istanbul, which receives nearly 20 million tourists and has around 1 million foreign residents, had also stepped up its fight against organized crime.
