African telecom regulators call for strong AI governance to mitigate risks-Xinhua
NAIROBI, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- The development and adoption of emerging technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) in Africa must be anchored in sound policy and legal guardrails to mitigate potential societal risks, telecom regulators said Monday. Speaking at a meeting of Africa's information and communications technology (ICT) regulatory bodies running through Friday in Nairobi, the Kenyan capital, David Mugonyi, director-general of the Communications Authority of Kenya, noted that while AI has immense potential to transform economies, it also carries serious risks that require ethical deployment and oversight.
