5 killed as truck overturns in eastern Indonesia-Xinhua
JAKARTA, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) -- At least five people were killed when a truck carrying 15 passengers overturned on a hillside road in Indonesia's East Nusa Tenggara province, police told local media Tuesday. The accident occurred on a road in Lembata district, when the truck, loaded with sand, water containers and passengers, appeared to lose power while climbing a slope, said local traffic police chief Januardana Rambi. The driver attempted to slowly reverse the vehicle after it stalled, but it slid and overturned, Rambi said. Several passengers were struck or buried under the sand load, killing five and injuring 10 others. Police and local residents evacuated the victims to a nearby hospital. ■
