UN chief calls for permanent Gaza ceasefire-Xinhua
UNITED NATIONS, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Monday called for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza ahead of the third anniversary of the Oct. 7, 2023 attacks. The horrors of those attacks must never be repeated, and the ensuing hostilities in Gaza must end, Guterres said in a message marking the third anniversary. On Oct. 7, 2023, Palestinian militant group Hamas attacked Israel from Gaza, killing about 1,200 people and taking 251 hostage. Israel responded with a war on Hamas in Gaza that killed at least 74,000 Palestinians.
