Afghanistan achieves self-sufficiency in salt production-Xinhua
KABUL, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- Afghanistan has achieved self-sufficiency in salt production and will no longer need to import the commodity, the official Bakhtar News Agency reported Saturday. "Afghanistan needs around 300,000 tons of salt annually, while it produces 344,000 tons of salt a year," the news agency said in a report. Salt extracted from 14 mines is processed and packaged domestically, the report said, adding that the country is considering ways to export salt in the future. ■
