British gov’t says RAF Fairford base safe after U.S. withdraws bombers-Xinhua
LONDON, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) -- The British government said Monday that the Royal Air Force (RAF) Fairford used by the United States remains safe after Washington withdrew all of its bombers from the base. A Downing Street spokesperson declined to comment on "foreign nations' military operations," but said the base was safe. The spokesperson cited Defence Secretary Wes Streeting as saying last week that Britain had "tried and tested approaches to defend our bases around the country and throughout the world."
