BANGKOK, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) — Thailand has approved 12,010 long-term resident visas since launching the program four years ago, the country’s Board of Investment said on Monday.
The agency estimated the program has generated about 1.28 billion U.S. dollars in economic value.
Thailand introduced the visa in September 2022 to attract high-potential global citizens, retirees, remote workers, and skilled professionals.
The visa is a strategic pillar to attract global talent as Thailand absorbs a new wave of advanced technology investments, said Narit Therdsteerasukdi, the board’s secretary general.
Drawing top-tier executives and technical specialists from around the world is vital to strengthening the Southeast Asian country’s competitiveness and securing technology transfers from international partners, Narit said. ■
