NAIROBI, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) -- The World Health Organization (WHO) said on Tuesday it is working closely with the Kenyan government to intensify control measures after Kenya confirmed its first imported case of Bundibugyo virus disease (BVD), in a patient who died at a Nairobi hospital on Monday night. In a statement issued in Nairobi, WHO said the Kenyan government is strengthening response coordination and case investigation while monitoring and listing contacts for enhanced disease surveillance. Screening at high-risk points of entry, clear risk communication and community engagement are at the core of the response, it said. RIGA, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) -- Latvian President Edgars Rinkevics said on Tuesday that incumbent Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs would lead talks on forming the Baltic country's next government following his party's sweeping victory in last Saturday's parliamentary election. Rinkevics made the announcement at a press conference after holding separate consultations with all six political forces elected to the new parliament. VILNIUS, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) -- Lithuania's parliament has backed a constitutional amendment that would remove a ban on the deployment of weapons of mass destruction on Lithuanian territory, potentially opening the way for allied nuclear weapons to be stationed in the Baltic state, local news reported Tuesday. The amendment passed its first reading in the parliament on Tuesday with 106 lawmakers in favor, 18 against and six abstaining. A final vote cannot take place until at least three months later and will require support from at least 94 of the 141 members of parliament, known as Seimas.
