LIMA, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- A large forest fire left one person dead and two others injured in southern Peru, a regional emergency official said Saturday. The fire in the populated community of Yanahuara in Urubamba province, Cusco region, killed an elderly person whose identity had not yet been determined, Miguel Oscco, head of the regional emergency operations center of Cusco, told local radio station RPP. The two injured people, who suffered second-degree burns, were rushed to the Cusco Regional Hospital for treatment, according to Oscco. The fire remained out of control as intense solar radiation, strong winds and dry vegetation hampered firefighting efforts, Oscco said. KABUL, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- Five workers have been killed after a mine collapsed in northern Afghanistan's Takhar province, local media outlet TOLOnews reported on Saturday. Naqibullah Masroor, head of press and public relations at the Takhar Police Command, told TOLOnews that the incident occurred at a mine in the Shah Mastan Valley of Chah Ab district. NAIROBI, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- At least 17 people were killed early Saturday in a multi-vehicle pileup along the Nairobi-Mombasa highway, Kenyan police said. The crash occurred at around 00:10 a.m. (2110 GMT Friday) at Mlima Kiu in the Salama area when the driver of a truck heading for the coastal city of Mombasa attempted to overtake a line of vehicles but clipped the rear right side of another truck traveling in the same direction, according to the police. The impact caused the first truck's driver to lose control. The vehicle then sideswiped two oncoming vehicles heading toward the Kenyan capital, Nairobi. ISLAMABAD, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- Two Pakistani civilians were killed and another was injured in firing by India's Border Security Force (BSF) near the border in Kasur district of Pakistan's eastern Punjab province, Pakistani security sources said Friday. The sources said the three villagers had just moved a few steps beyond a border pillar when India's BSF personnel "opened fire on them without warning." None of the villagers was armed.
