Israeli PM orders security review of foreign flights to Israel after Flydubai attack-Xinhua

JERUSALEM, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered a comprehensive review of security arrangements for foreign civilian flights to Israel, his office said in a statement on Sunday, following last week's attack aboard a Tel Aviv-bound Flydubai aircraft. Netanyahu instructed National Security Council chief Shmuel Ben-Ezra to appoint an examiner to assess all aspects of aviation security concerning foreign flights to Israel, the office said. Earlier on Sunday, Israel's Channel 12 reported that a preliminary Israeli investigation found that the co-pilot who attacked the captain of the Flydubai flight acted alone. 8 terrorists killed in security operation in NW Pakistan-Xinhua

ISLAMABAD, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- Eight terrorists were killed during an intelligence-based operation by security forces in Pakistan's northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Sunday, security sources said. The operation was conducted in Dera Ismail Khan district following intelligence about the presence of terrorists, security sources told Xinhua. Three key leaders of the banned militant organization Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan were among those killed, while weapons, ammunition and foreign currency were recovered from the militants, the sources said. President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the security forces for the operation, saying the fight against terrorism would continue until its complete elimination. ■ Source link

Israel says 1,318 security personnel killed in 3 years of conflicts-Xinhua

JERUSALEM, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- A total of 1,318 troops, security personnel and first responders have been killed since the start of Israel's three-year conflicts in the Middle East, the country's Defense Ministry said Sunday. The ministry released the figures ahead of the third anniversary of the Hamas-led attack on Oct. 7, 2023, in which 251 people were kidnapped and about 1,200 others were killed. In response, Israel launched a military campaign in the Gaza Strip that has since expanded to fighting across the region. ADDIS ABABA, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki departed for Egypt on Saturday for a working visit amid heightened regional diplomatic tensions. During the visit, Afwerki will participate in a summit of heads of state on collective security, stability, and partnership, Eritrean Minister of Information Yemane Gebremeskel disclosed on Saturday. According to Gebremeskel, the current summit is a continuation of periodic forums on the wider neighborhood, namely the Red Sea Region, the Gulf of Aden, the Arabian Gulf, as well as the Nile Basin. The Eritrean president left for the North African country upon the invitation of his Egyptian counterpart, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. Sri Lanka police to strengthen security at apartment complexes following reports of drug trafficking-Xinhua

COLOMBO, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka Police said Friday that it will strengthen security at 24 apartment complexes in and around Colombo, following reports of drug trafficking and damage to public property. The apartment complexes are part of Colombo's housing program, the Urban Regeneration Project. Police said drug trafficking and damage to common property had been reported around some of the housing complexes.
