CANBERRA, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) -- Petrol vehicle sales in Australia were down 36.2 percent year-on-year in September as electric vehicle sales continued to surge, the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) reported on Tuesday. The report also said that diesel vehicle sales declined by 18.4 percent in September. In the same period, the FCAI said that sales of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrids more than doubled. 2 pedestrians fatally struck by vehicle in eastern Australia-Xinhua

SYDNEY, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- Two pedestrians have died after they were hit by a vehicle in the eastern Australian state of New South Wales on Sunday night. A police statement said that the male pedestrians, aged 70 and 55, were struck by an SUV while walking along a roadway in the coastal town of Tura Beach, 350 km south of Sydney, around 9:30 p.m. local time on Sunday. Both men died at the scene. The 45-year-old female driver of the SUV was not injured and was taken to the hospital for mandatory drug and alcohol testing.
